SOMEONE is still not quite over the part where Anika and Daddy leave every morning to go to school and work.

Every morning after breakfast he makes his way to the front door, grabs a shoe (any shoe – sometimes they are his; sometimes not), and waits by the door. He sits with Ani; stands there; asks for Brandon to pick him up and then cheerily waves goodbye to me.

He is usually a pretty good sport about it when they actually leave. He wants to stand at the window with me and wave to them until he can’t see them anymore. And then we go on with our day.

For me that means making coffee. For Sam that means sitting woefully in the front hall and attempting to put shoes on his feet.

Periodically he gives up and then wanders over to the front door in case it magically wants to open for him.

Then it’s back to trying the shoe thing again.

It’s kind of funny actually. He puts the shoe on the floor and then stands on it. Then he stares at his feet, completely flummoxed as to why the shoe isn’t actually ON.

You have to admire the kid’s perseverance.

Eventually his deadbeat mother takes pity on him, puts down the camera, and scoops him up to give him some cuddles. Then we get dressed and go do fun things like get a haircut.

He’s pretty sweet about it – he really misses them when they go.

I miss you too kiddo. The other day he hit me with an emphatic ‘dada’ when Ani and I were leaving. So cute. I love his heart.
