Mom Hair Style 11: Bohemian Twist Updo

January 12, 2012

Hey guys!

This look is an AWESOME Day 3 hairstyle – it gets it out of your face, looks neat, and it’s easy to do. ALL GOOD.

There is a video tutorial for this style on YouTube, found here –

Basically you just split your hair in half (like you were going to do two pony tails), and twist each side separately, right to the ends. You’re going to twist like we’ve done the other ones – kind of like a french braid – where you take two small pieces to start, add hair to both the top and bottom pieces, and twist them over each other. Once you get to the back of your head (and run out of hair for that side), just twist the pieces together to the ends of your hair and secure it with a small elastic.

Do both sides, and then take the end of one twist and tuck it into the twist from the other side and pin it. Repeat with the other one, and pin until everything feels secure.

You have some flexibility with this style – you can do it a little tighter so that it’s a little neater looking, or you can let it be loose and a bit messy. You can choose to leave your bangs out or pull them back into the style too. For me it depends on the day, and on how badly I want to get my hair out of my face! (Clearly yesterday was a bangs back kind of day).

Sam wishes you to admire his hair too. Actually, Sam is just fascinated by the tripod and the self timer on the camera. Fortunately he grins every time the flash goes off!

Watch the video in the link – it will clear up a lot as far as how to twist your hair properly goes!

Review time!

Both pretty and fun. I think that you can make this be really beautiful (put flower clips in it, etc.) if you want to dress it up – or wear it loose and a bit messy as a ponytail alternative. Either way it’s great!

Very easy. Twists are so forgiving – really, much easier than braiding. Give it a try and don’t get discouraged! It’s great fun.

Maybe 1, the first time you do it. By the time you’ve done it a few times you probably won’t need any – it’s almost as fast as sticking your hair in a ponytail! Just sing “Wheels on the Bus” a couple of times to amuse the littles and you should be good to go.

My hair has to be a little longer before I try this. Who is the smiley kid with you??

Yay for Day 3 hairstyles! I could do with some (ahem!)

This is very pretty, I like the twists. I’m starting back at work next week and a lot of these styles would work in the office too!

You and Sam are both gorgeous!
