Mom Hair Style 13: Half Braid

January 14, 2012

This is a style that I found here, on the lovely “The Beauty Department” website. LOVE.

When I first saw this, I didn’t expect to really like it that much. I thought it was fine, good way to get your hair off your face. But once I tried it I was hooked – I LOVE this.

First, it’s super easy to do. All you are doing is starting at the front and french braiding your hair back and angling it down slightly. When you add hair to your french braid, you ONLY add hair to the top piece – just braid the bottom piece normally.

This style looks awesome and cool no matter what – but it’s extra cool if you have any highlights or anything in your hair because you get this really geometric effect – the highlights come down straight and then run perpendicular through your braid. Really fun.

The only trick to this is to make sure that you pull your braid fairly tight and don’t pull it forward as you are braiding too much – you really want to be sure to hold the braid where you want it to sit on your head. Otherwise, you can end up with a funny lift where the hair you’ve pulled into the braid is a bit loose and lifts a bit when the braid settles back.

Added bonus if you happen to live in the northern part of the world? This sits under a hat JUST fine and emerges none the worse for it.

Try it out!!

Review time!

SO fun. This is definitely a “try it and you will love it” style – doesn’t look like much until you do – but it’s really really fun.

Easy – it’s a french braid, but it’s a relatively short one, and you don’t have to change hand position or move much at all. You can see everything you are doing, since it runs along the side of your head, and pretty much wherever you place it is where it’s going to sit.

One five-minute episode should get you going with this one! Try it out and have some fun!!

This is cute and I like the fact that you can see what you are doing! Whenever I can’t see what I’m doing I end up with lumps and bits of hair that aren’t secured in properly. And I have major envy of your lovely slimness! My tummy is never going to look like that again!
