Mom Hair Style 18: Braids!

January 20, 2012

Lets pretend I didn’t skip yesterday, shall we? I think that there’s a rule – it says that one is allowed to skip hair tutorial posts on one’s birthday. No really! It does!

MOVING ON.

This style is really fun, WAY easier than the french braided hairband, and looks really cute. Your hair doesn’t have to be super long to do it (although a little length is helpful). Try it out!

Here is a link to the tutorial. Go take a look, because she shows you a couple of different options, and photographs it all beautifully (unlike me. Ahem.).

The basic idea is that you are taking all of the hair in front of your ears, dividing each side in half, and braiding it. You end up with four braids total (2 on each side) and all of the hair at the back of your head just hanging down.

Then you just alternate braids, pinning them up and over the top of your head (from one side and then the other). Position the braids where you want them, and pin them securely.

With the rest of your hair (the stuff you left hanging down), you can either leave it down, or pin it up into a messy bun at the back of your head. I don’t have enough hair to do the messy bun thing nicely (boo), so I leave it down. But I don’t leave it completely straight – instead I take sections and curl them vertically around a barrel curling iron forward. Then I get some nice shaping, and the hair sits around the base of the braids more nicely.

Give it a try and see what you think!

Review:

PRETTY/FUN FACTOR:

SO fun. This is like the braided hairband but it’s so much easier to manage. Really fun look.

HOW HARD IS IT TO DO?:

Really easy – it’s straight braiding (not french braiding), so that’s handy. And you have a lot of flexibility as far as how you position things and pin them up. Try it out!

HOW MANY EPISODES OF PINGU DO I NEED TO DISTRACT MY KID WITH TO DO IT?

Maybe one. It’s fast! Try it! (Really!).

In this set of photos, your hair looks really nice! 🙂 (Not that it didn’t look nice in other ones, but I’ve always been a fan of wavy hair like that) 😀

Hmmm….I might test drive this one at church one of these days 🙂
