To infinity…and…oh wait.

February 28, 2011

So my sister was here last weekend! Not for a long time, but TOTALLY enough time to infect her with the plague that affected the rest of us. Yay family togetherness!

Shannon was talking about a jersey infinity scarf she’d seen somewhere that was a fairly ridiculous amount of money. Gorgeous fabric, to be sure, but still…a loop of jersey. So I said “Hey, we can make one of those.”

So we did. It took about 40 minutes all told.

We used a very highly scientific method of “trial and error” to make the scarf – we guessed at a width and sewed the tube, and then decided to make it a couple of inches narrower. We adjusted and checked. And then Shannon showed me how long she wanted it, so we trimmed the ends and stitched the whole thing together…and done! Infinity scarf.

(I think she maybe doesn’t want me to take her picture while she’s eating? Tough to be sure.)

These scarves are dead easy to make – I didn’t use a tutorial for this particularly, but if you’re looking for one, this is a good one – http://www.craftstylish.com/item/71903/how-to-make-an-infinity-scarf.

The one in the tutorial is a sweater knit one, fairly wide and large – if you’re looking to do something a little more “spring-y”, like we did, choose a soft jersey and make it a little narrower.

For good measure, this is what the scarf looks like next to a picture of Tinkerbell that my daughter painted. You are welcome.
