Huh.

July 25, 2011

As it turns out, summer makes it REALLY hard to get much sewing stuff done. I’m currently working on one project, which I hope to show you soon….in the meantime I will share an experience I had at Costco with Sam today. It’s…baffling, really, how that child’s mind works.

So, there I am, walking through the clothing section at Costco, aiming towards the kids socks (Ani needed some new ones). Sam is sitting in the cart, babbling away at me. I am chatting away with him as usual.

All of a sudden, Sam reaches forward and starts grabbing at the neck of my shirt. I was wearing a pretty stretchy t-shirt, so he’s yanking the neckline down and (apparently?) trying to look down my shirt.

I have *never* had the kid do that before. He knows when it’s time to nurse and when it’s not; he wasn’t interested in nursing at all. He just seemed to…want a look at the goods? I kept loudly saying things like “Oh Sam, stop playing with mama’s necklace!” even when it was perfectly clear to anyone with eyes that was NOT what the boy was doing.  I also tried “Hey Sam, women don’t like that!” (Also ignored).

It only lasted for a minute or so, and then he went back to looking around and babbling and whatever else. Weird. Moving on. Socks. Right.

Except a minute or two later I turned around and went back the way I came. As I got to the end of the aisle, he did it again. (SERIOUSLY SAMUEL?!?)

And then…I looked over to my left. Where there was a giant display of women’s sports bras. The boxes had pictures of bouncy sporty people wearing the sports bras. Sam pointed and then yanked at my shirt again.

?!?!?

Good gravy. What must be going through his mind…”OHhhhhhdiididididiiibababababa…BOOF!….QUACKQUACK!……..llllalaabbabababa…..OH HEY, Mommy has some of those, I’m sure of it – let me just check! YEP, there they are!! MILK!!! WHEEEE……lalallalalalBOOF!”

I honestly don’t know whether to be impressed at the connections he’s drawing or alarmed.

He should have a little t-shirt that says, “Boys: We’re Just Different.” 🙂
